The demand for money fell off materially to-aay, the few borrowers who presented themselves for bank favors asking for only small amounts, which; bankers cheerfully granted at per centj. Reserves were further increased by liberal deposits, but received no aid to tpns of from the country. Eblpmcnts of currency to the country were unimportant, and checking was only moderate.

Business in the open market was light. The little prime time paper offered was readily placed at 8 per cent. Money was ottered at 6 per cent, qn call, but there was no demand for this class of loans. There was a strong tone to the market for Eastern exchange, and, although there were Sales between banks at 50x per $1,000 discount, There was not much to be bad at this rate, most sellers asking par.
