FUNERAL John Niehaus, paper carrier He was the last of long family line of Enquirer deliverers BY SCOTT BURGINS The Cincinnati Enquirer John Niehaus was the last in a family dynasty that delivered newspapers to Cincinnati doorsteps for almost 100 years. His grandfather, father, wife, daughter, brothers and cousins all have hurled The Enquirer across front lawns.

The North College Hill resident died July 3 and was buried last weekend. He was 82. "At one time, he delivered more than 1,000 papers a day," said his cousin, Gus Schimpf. The family business began before 1900 with Mr. Niehaus' grandfather, and continued uninterrupted until he retired in 1978.

To keep it going, his wife, Agnes, took over the route while Mr. Niehaus fought for the U.S. Army -during World War II. Along with the job came nightowl hours: 2 a.m. to 6:30 a.m., seven days a week.

"There was never a complaint. People said they could set their For 40 years, Arthur Louis Knecht played cello for the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. But his last days were spent wielding a pen, not a bow. The 88-year-old former Westwood resident, who moved to Colorado Springs, 20 years ago, died of a heart attack Monday at his home there. Marvin, a general practitioner in Cincinnati for 55 years. In addition to her daughter, she is survived by two sons, Dr. Robert K. Marvin of Memphis, and Warren Marvin of Pittsburgh; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m.
