I TUESDAY, DECEMBER 14, 2004 FN LOCAL NEWS THE ENQUIRER Lives remembered M.A. 'Tillie' Tanfani, 57, was teacher, librarian Northside resident ran Hebron library By Rebecca Goodman Enquirer staff writer NORTHSIDE Matilda Ann "Tillie" Tanfani, manager of the Lents Branch Library in Hebron, died Friday of cancer at Montgomery Care Center. The Northside resident was 57. "She was probably one of the most caring, kindest and most thoughtful people that I've ever 1 had the pleasure of being around," said Cindy Brown, director of the Boone County Public Library. "She never forgot any kind of special occasion.

I would often find some little Ms. Tanfani thoughtful gift on my desk that she had sent over. I know she did it for I don't know how many other people on the staff. She was able to find the time and care and concern to make that little effort and make everyone feel special." Ms. Tanfani "never came to anyone's house empty-handed," her sister, Anna Mingie of North College Hill, said.

She was "thoughtful with keeping up with extended relatives. She was the family communicator." A patron of the arts and an education advocate, Ms. Tanfani "supported things like the new Freedom Center downtown. When my kids were younger she always got a membership at the Children's Museum and took them down there. She introduced her nieces and nephews to the arts.

Both my children have taken music lessons thanks to her." Born in Phillipsburg, March 14, 1947, Ms. Tanfani graduated summa cum laude from Edgecliff College in 1969. She taught at St. Boniface School in Northside until the early 1970s, when she received a master's degree in library science 1 from Northern Kentucky University. She worked at the Edgecliff Library until the college was bought by Xavier University.

When the Lents Branch Library, part of the Boone County Library District, opened in 1989, Ms. Tanfani became the branch manager. She was a member of the United Italian Society and a cantor and member of the choir at St. Boniface Church. In addition to her sister, survivors include her mother, Margaret Tanfani of Colerain Township; another sister, Victoria Clayton of Adams County; and a brother, Patrick Tanfani of Morristown, Tenn.

Visitation is 5-8 p.m. today at Chas. A. Miller Sons Funeral Home, 4138 Hamilton Ave. in Northside.

Mass of Christian burial is 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Boniface Church, 1750 Chase Northside. Interment will be at St. Joseph (new) Cemetery in Price Hill.

Memorials: Eden Grove Academy, 6273 Collegevue Place, Cincinnati, OH 45224. E-mail Electoral: Bush wins official vote in Ohio From Page B1 The complaint also cites problems with voters who claimed they were directed to incorrect polling places and several reports of Election Day problems such as votes not being recorded for president, ballots that wouldn't line up correctly in punch card machines or people who saw their vote "hop" to Bush on touch-screen machines after they voted for Kerry. The dissidents also asked the court to delay the electors' vote, but the ballots were cast without the court acting on that request. Congressional Democrats sent a letter Monday to Taft, asking the Republican to delay the electors' vote. The electors' meeting is required in state and federal law, Taft said in refusing to delay.

As the electors met, the Democrats, led by Rep. John Conyers, met in City Hall to hear evidence of voting irregularities. Carlo LoParo, spokesman for Secretary of State Kenneth Blackwell, defended the election results. For the challengers' accusations to be true, officials in both parties would have had to conspire to throw the election, he said. "That's simply a ridiculous assertion," he said.

In a separate action, dissidents led by a coalition representing the Green and Libertarian parties are paying for recounts in each of Ohio's 88 counties that will begin this week and are not expected to be complete until next week. The Ohio Electoral College vote is sent to the president of the U.S. Senate, who will announce the national total on Jan. 005 Death Notices ABRAMIS Claire E.
