A social worker at Children's Hospital Medical Center, Ms. Kean was "truly a cheerleader for her patients, especially the underdogs," said Patricia Myers, clinical director of social service at Children's. Ms. Kean died Saturday at University Hospital after a short battle with cancer. The Madeira resident was 37.

After children were treated for some sort of trauma or illness, they were sent to Ms. Kean, who helped them and their families adjust and recover as much normal function as dy. Bosshardt, cese," said the Rev. James Dixon, Hispanic ministry his special calling BY VICKIE MONDY The Cincinnati Enquirer The Rev. James R. Brockman, S.J., whose tireless work touched the lives of many people around the world, died Sept. 22 in Little Rock, from heart failure.

He was 73. Father Brockman graduated from St. Xavier High School in 194-4. He then started his studies at Xavier University, spending a short time there before entering the Army Air Corps in 1945. He served for 30 months before returning to Xavier in 1946, where he stayed for the next year.

In 1947, he joined the Jesuit novitiate in Milford. During his training there, he received a bachelor's degree in English from Xavier in 1951. He then received a master's in English from Loyola University in Chicago in 1959. He also earned a licentiate in philosophy in 1955 and a bachelor's of sacred theology in 1961 from West Baden College in Indiana, where he was ordained a priest in 1960. As part of his Jesuit training, Father Brockman taught at St.

Brockman served until 1973, when he returned to the States and served as a chaplain at Cook County Hospital in Chicago and, later, as an associate editor of America magazine in New York City. In the late 1970s, Father Brockman traveled to El Salvador. It was there that he met Archbishop Oscar Romero. Archbishop Romero, along with many other Jesuits, became an outspoken protester against the government after military police murdered several Jesuits and members of the laity in the late 1970s. Archbishop Romero was assassinated by military police in March 1980 while celebrating Mass in El Salvador.

In June of that year, Father Brockman returned to El Salvador to research Archbishop Romero's life and work. Bob Taft to keep campaign promises he made about reducing gun violence among children. The governor's office called Mr. Fingerhut's comments a partisan swipe having more to do with State-house politics than gun control.

Mr. Fingerhut, D-Cleveland, made his remarks at a news conference held by The Prevention Institute, a Columbus-based research center that released a report calling for tougher laws regarding children and access to guns. "Speeding Bullets, The Deadly Consequence of Children and Guns" said 145 Ohio children on average are killed each year by guns. Institute spokesman Bill Crimi said Ohio has failed to implement nine of 14 standard firearms laws passed by several other states, including a juvenile possession law passed by 30 states. Mr.
