Alba, who was active in numerous civic groups, died Thursday of cancer at Franciscan Hospital-Western Hills Campus. She was 72. A World War II Navy veteran, Mrs. Alba was a clerk for Gibeau Gibeau Auctions.

She retired last year. The Cheviot resident was a former president of the St. Aloysius Claude Taylor, 77, devoted to Bible BY JASON NEBEL The Cincinnati Enquirer Claude Taylor, a retired maintenance employee of Norwood City Schools, died Wednesday at East Galbraith Health Care Center in Deer Park. He was 77. "He was the kindest, gentlest man I've ever known," said his daughter-in-law, Lisa Taylor of Norwood.

"He always had a kind word to say." Mr. Taylor found his inspiration in the Bible, which his family says he read in its entirety times. He was a member of Avenue Church of God in wood, where he taught School for many years. He completed Bible courses at College in Cleveland, Tenn. Mr.

Taylor lived in Norwood PTA, a church usher and a volunteer for the Girl Scouts and Meals on Wheels. She was a member of the Bridgetown Civic Association, and the Catholic Order of Foresters as well as a secretary for the Green Township Senior Center. She was also a member of a senior citizens bowling league. "She was a fighter who always helped where she could," said her husband of 44 years, Frank Alba. Other survivors include four daughters, Barbara Strateiger of Fort Mitchell, Terri Lynn Monroe of West Chester, Michaele Ann more than 50 years and was employed by Norwood City: Schools for 35 years.

He retired in 1985. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Dorothy; a son, Randy Norwood; a sister, Troy Gray of Louisville; and one granddaughter. Services will be today at 9:30 a.m. at Floral Avenue Church of God, 3728 Floral Ave. in Norwood.

Geraldine Crosby, 69, taught school in NYC BY TOM O'NEILL The Cincinnati Enquirer Geraldine Lorretta (Lyons) Crosby, a Cincinnati-raised educator who worked as a teacher in New York City schools, died Saturday at Wesley Woods Hospital in Atlanta. She was 69. Ms. Crosby, known to friends as "Jerry," was born Oct.

23, 1927, to Walter and Laura Lyons. One of five children, she graduated from Withrow High School in Hyde Park. Molloy of Delhi Township and Mary Jo Minges of West Harrison; her mother, Janella Rauh of Brookfield, and nine grandchildren. Services will be at 7 p.m. Monday at St.

While working as a school teacher in New York City, Ms. Crosby served as a union representative for employees in a large section of all public schools in the Queens borough.

She was also an advocate for racial integration of the schools, and worked to help integrate predominantly white Bayside High School. Poor health prompted her retirement from education last September. She is survived by a son, Gregory W. Crosby; a sister, Barbara Matthews; a brother, Kenneth D. Lyons; and three grandchildren.

FBI probes a allegations dealer used WWII document in con The Associated Press COLUMBUS Friends of a historic documents dealer were thrilled when he divulged his latest find: one of six sets of the document signed aboard the USS Missouri to end World War II. They invested with dealer Michael Hurwitz in a share of history. Then his wife reported him missing.

And at least six investors filed police reports claiming losses between $10,000 and $69,500. Now police and the FBI are investigating whether Mr. Hurwitz, who has collected documents of historic value for about 35 years, was offering to sell a 50 percent share in a fake document. "We are aware of the allegations and we are conducting an inquiry to see whether there may have been violations of federal law," FBI agent Dave Hanna said Friday. Meanwhile, Mr.

Hurwitz was in custody on an unrelated charge in New York. His wife, Jacqueline, reported him missing May 2, telling police she had last seen him the morning of April 29, the Columbus Dispatch reported Friday.
