C4 TUESDAY, JULY 25, 1995 THE CINCINNATI ENQUIRER Roberta Nolloth was compassionate landlady BY STEVE KEMME The Cincinnati Enquirer Roberta Nolloth tried to take care of the elderly and poor who lived in some of the six apartment buildings she owned in the Wallace Woods section of Covington. "She was like a mother to those people," said Rusty Iseral, her maintenance worker. "She'd take food to them. Sometimes she even took money out of her own pocket" to help them with expenses. Miss Nolloth, 64, of Covington, died Thursday at University Hospital after driving into the back of a Kenton County sanitation truck in Covington.

In the late 1950s and early 1960s, she was boating editor for The Enquirer and wrote a weekly column. "Her family was in boating," said Dick Macke, of The Enquirer's sports department and a Wallace Woods resident. "She was wellknown in boating She enjoyed covering hydroplane races on the Ohio River, said Bob Rankin, a former outdoors editor for The Enquirer who lives in Fort Thomas. "She was also quite well known as a candy-maker in her youth," he said. "She OBITUARIES made the candy in her basement." A friend, Bonnie Gray of Covington, said Miss Nolloth used to bring presents for her young daughter because she knew the family budget was limited.

"Every Christmas and Easter, there was always something outside the door for my daughter," Gray said. "Bobbie would just sign it 'the Easter Bunny' or 'Santa Miss Nolloth had a soft heart for animals as well as children, Iseral said. "She fed every animal in the neighborhood," he said. "I'd get peanuts for birds, squirrels, everything. Very seldom do you have the honor to get to know a person like her." Miss Nolloth leaves no relatives.

Visitation will be 11 a.m. to noon Wednesday at Connley Bros. Funeral Home, 11 E. Southern Latonia. The service will follow at noon at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Highland Cemetery in Fort Mitchell. Raymond Grossman collected rocks, was woodcarver for furniture maker BY AMY WILLIAMS The Cincinnati Enquirer Raymond Roman Grossman was wellknown in Batesville, and was nicknamed "Grandpa" by all who knew him. Mr. Grossman died of cancer Saturday at Margaret Mary Community Hospital in Batesville. He was 96.

He had retired as a woodcarver with Romweber Furniture Co. in Batesville. During his retirement, he enjoyed fishing and collecting rocks. Mr. Grossman was a member of the Knights of St.

John Church in Batesville, the Dry Dredgers in the geology department at the University of Cincinnati and the Cincinnati Mineral Society. Mr. Grossman and married His wife died in 1984.
