Liggett, banker He was former chairman, chief executive officer of Star Bank BY MEGHAN HENTERLY The Cincinnati Enquirer William N. Liggett, former chairman and chief executive officer of Star Bank, died I Saturday at his Mount Adams home after a long illness. He was 75. Mr. Liggett, 75, retired in 1984 after 36 years with the corporation, formerly First National Bank of Cincinnati.

He became president and CEO in 1971 and was named chairman the next year. After his retirement, Mr. Liggett continued to serve on Star Banc board of directors until April, 1992. "I think the community has certainly lost a patriot who has contributed significantly to the enhancement of this community," said Oliver Waddell, current chairman and CEO of Star Bank. Waddell cited Mr.

Liggett's extensive list of accomplishments, including his dedication to the Dan Born in 1917 in Ripley, Ohio, Mr. Liggett graduated from Miami University in 1939 and then earned a master's degree from the Graduate School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin. Mr. Liggett is survived by his wife, Marjorie Lloyd Liggett; sons Col. W.

Fortunato, Bridgetown He was part-time teacher at UC's mechanics school for 25 years BY KRISTEN DELGUZZI The Cincinnati Enquirer Frank F. Fortunato, a former quality-control engineer for the Clopay died of a heart attack Friday at St. Francis-St. George Hospital. The Bridgetown resident was 80.

Mr. Fortunato taught part time for 25 years at the University of Cincinnati's Ohio Mechanics Institute, where he served as acting dean for 14 months. After his retirement from Clopay in 1977, Mr. Fortunato helped found the Green Township Post of the VFW, for which he served as commander in 1988. "He didn't start into this until recently," said daughter Camille Ferrara of Lebanon.

"He was very dedicated. It meant more to him than anything he had done in a long time." Mr. Fortunato was 75 when he was the first commander for VFW Post 10380, said Gene Schlotthauer of Covedale, a fellow VFW Fortunato enrolled in the UC evening college. He graduated 16 years later with a degree in industrial engineering and quality control, said daughter Geraldine Schneider of Mack. Other than his two daughters, Mr.

Fortunato is survived by his wife, Rose, of Bridgetown. Services will be 5-8 p.m. Monday at the Rebold Son Funeral Home, 3700 Glenmore Cheviot. The VFW Post 10380 will hold services at 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, and the American Legion Post 425 will hold a service at 7:15 p.m.

After the war, Mr. Elmer and Zella Heller, Indiana Couple traveled across the country visiting their grandchildren BY MEGHAN HENTERLY The Cincinnati Enquirer When Elmer and Zella Heller weren't traveling from state to state visiting grandchildren, they were helping others. Elmer, 79, and Zella, 77, both of Bright, died Wednesday in a traffic accident in Madison, Ind. "They traveled as much as they could and were always there for whoever needed them," said their daughter, Ruth Kern of Lawrenceburg.

Kern said her parents, who married in October, 1935, were members of a travel club and often drove to Minnesota. or Oklahoma to visit grandchildren. Mr. Heller was a retired superintendent of the Dearborn County School District and had served as Moores Hill High School principal. "He did everything there was to do in the field of said their son, Lars of Bright, Ind.

He said his father was appreciated by students and staff of the school district. Mr. Heller earned a bachelor's degree from Ball State University, Central Normal College and a master's degree from the University of Cincinnati. Mrs. Heller served as deputy auditor for Dearborn County and later served as deputy to the Dearborn County schools superintendent.

She was also organist for the Hemline Chapel Methodist Church and the Episcopal Church of Lawrenceburg. Other than their daughter and son, survivors include Mr. Heller's brothers, Virgil and Alton Heller, both of Moores Hill, and Alvin of Milan; sisters Ethel Rawlins and Irma Stacy, both of Moores Hill, and Hilda Heller of Milan; Mrs. Heller's brothers, Robert and Carl Bagley, both of California, and John Bagley of Mooresville, six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Visitation is today from 4 to 9 p.m.

Virginia Hartman, Dayton, Ky. Woman was March of Dimes chairwoman, homemaker, volunteer BY LEE ANN McGINLEY The Cincinnati Enquirer One of Virginia Decker Hartman's proudest moments was the time she became an Internal Revenue Service's Employee of the Year in Covington about 10 years ago. Mrs. Hartman, who did not work outside of her Dayton, home until she was 60, received the award while working as seasonal help. "She was really proud because they usually don't consider seasonal employees for the award," said her son John of Dayton, Ky.

Mrs. Hartman, 74, died Thursday while spending the winter with Liggett the Hennegan Co. Co. and was chairman of trustees of Miami Mr. Liggett served of the Ohio Bankers 1980-81 and was vice president of Bankers Association.
