A third psychiatrist, Dr. Edward Burns of the University of Wisconsin, backed up Honeck, saying Gein was medically insane but legally sane, since he knew the difference between right and wrong. Honeck Indicated afterwards, however, that he would not appeal Bunde'g ruling.

Gein left immediately for Waupun, where he may spend the rest of his life. His manacles had been taken from his hands after his two near-coi-lapses in the crowded courtroom. He appeared healthy and in good spirits when he departed. Gein's secret life as a human ghoul became known November 16, when the body of a Plainfield storekeeper, Mrs. Bernice Worden, 58, was' found strung up by her heels and "dressed out like a deer" in his rural "House of Horrors." WISCONSIN RAPIDS, Jan.

6 (UP) Circuit Judge Herbert C. Bunde ruled today that "Human Butcher" Ed Gein is insane and committed him to an indefinite term in a mental institution. Bunde said he does not believe that Gein, 51-year-old grave robber and murderer of two women, will ever again see the outside world. lie ordered Gein sent to the State Hospital for the Criminally Insane at Waupun, where the frail Plainfield, handy man has been held most of the time since his "House of Horrors" was discovered. Bunde's ruling climaxed a day-long sanity hearing at which Gein twice approached collapse.
