News Strike NEW YORK (UP Hope dimmed Wednesday for publication of the World Journal Tribune's newspapers before July 11 due to difficulties In coming to terms with the Pressmen's Union, according to informed sources. Union negotiators stormed out of a meeting with management representatives but later agreed to return to the bargaining table Thursday. The union is one of two craft unions which has not yet signed a contract with the merged publishing firm. Management also is negotiating with the Mailers Union. The World Journal Tribune reached contract accord Tuesday with the striking Newspaper Guild and the Deliverers Union.

The Guild was the only union actually on strike but nine craft unions also refused to work without new contracts. Negotiations with the pressmen hit a snag June 7 over union demands for uniform starting times and length of the Saturday night shift, and these issues have never been resolved. The strike is in its 66th day and will be eleven weeks old when and if publication begins July 11. "AKii Richard and RathLeaa. aaai "ort.

Other "beefs" included teacher assignments and transfers from one school to another and the grouping of too many ability levels in one classroom. THE REPORT said the survey indicates the need for "development of a system -wide work-load formula" for released teacher time, clerical help for teachers, better ability and grade leveling, and use of such personnel as policemen and retired firemen to patrol and maintain law and order on school property. Some teachers have classes of up to 40 pupils, one CTA member here complained.

A total of 73.2 of 870 responding said they want released time for parent-pupil conferences and 66.8 of 795 said they did not have time enough to go to the restroom. "Although 66.8 of the teachers felt that they did not have time to go to the washroom, typically, teachers are not asking so much for Increased personal comfort," the report 6ald, "but on the contrary tiiey are asking for an atmosphere that will promote better education In the classroom. Teachers are saying, In effect, they need more time to work with the Individual." COCHAIRMAN of the PRR Committee are Joseph Prior, teacher at Hughes High School, and Mrs. Ruth Beck-man, teacher at Kirby Road Elementary School. The survey showed some schools (unidentified) "in which a clash exists between teachers and the report said.

"Questionnaires (responses) from these schools comment on problems involving administrative lack of leadership and dictatorial policies. "Conversely, this survey also discloses those schools where administration Is fair, honest and respected." HERE WERE other problems teachers listed. In order of frequency, usually as comments or footnotes: Administrators who rule by dictatorial decrees, teachers having to "sign in" each day, pressures applied by local school administrator, broken promises made to teachers by administrators, lack of administrative backing of teachers In discipline cases, administrators' taking sides with pupils IR0UGHT0N Steve and (haron AOAn Horntlawn tiri. The summary, published by the National Education Association, listed the Ohio teacher at $4337 in 1955-56, compared to $6550 for the year just ended. Ohio thus ranked 25th among the states in teacher pay for 1965-66. But its ranking dropped, ironically, from 18th ten years ago, because other slates passed it in pay raises. Top salary rank in 1965-66 went to California, where the average was S8600.

Kentucky's $5100 ranked it 47th. The NEA report showed the $503 per pupil spent in Ohio for education last school year fell below the $533 national average. BURNS and Joyce. 3009 West. Klve secretary.

2251 Change Looms In Mailing Of Welfare Checks Beginning in July there will be a change in the dates some welfare checks are received, Frederick A. Breyer, director of the Hamilton County Welfare Department announced yesterday. Due to statewide welfare reorganization, Aid to the Blind, Aid for the Disabled and Aid to Dependent Children checks will be mailed from Columbus. They formerly were mailed from Hamilton County. Aid to the Blind and Aid for the Disabled checks will be received in Hamilton County between July 5 and 7 and the 4th and 7th of following months.

Aid to Dependent Children checks will be received here between the July 2 and and following months. If persons receiving checks on these programs have moved, the checks will not be forwarded, but will be returned to Columbus for mailing to their new addresses. To avoid this delay, Mr. Breyer urged recipients to inform their Welfare Department caseworkers at once when they move. narnson clerk.

A Louisville doctor told the American Medical Association convention here Wednesday that, while he does not yet have complete proof, he believes some individuals "are predisposed to become obese. Not only that, said Dr. I. B. Perlsteln, but he believes this tendency may be hereditary.

And a high percentage of the overweight people he has studied "could pinpoint the onset of their obesity to a particular stress, such as acute illness, an operation or an accident." Dr. Perlstein was reporting on 20 years of treating people troubled by weight problems and, more specifically, an in-depth study of 350 such patients. Others taking part in the research were B. N. Premacbandra, Jefferson Barracks Veterans Hospital, and H.

Blumen-thal, Washington University, both of St Louis. Their studies indicate that much obesity may due to faulty assimilation of thyroid hormones. That It may also be related to diabetes is suggested by the fact that 500 of the patients showed abnormal this country Is overweight. Excess fat "is becoming an epidemic of major proportions," he added. The researchers' theory is that for some reason, such as heredity or psycho-' logical stress, some people form antibodies which prevent proper use of thyroid hormones.

Through this "abnormal binding," the tissue takes up the antibody instead of the hormone. In addition, changes in the small blood vessels of the skin have been observed In 850 of the cases. These Include an Inflammatory reaction around the tiny arterioles and later obstruction of these vessels. In addition to T-3, which overcomes the effects of the antibodies, Dr. Perlstein prescribes a special diet.

And the results have been "dramatic," he says. Both physically and psychologically, patients have shown great Improvement. His diet calls for low fats, very low carbohydrates and no restriction on proteins. But he cautioned that doctors cannot, "give patients a pill and a diet sheet and send them home to lose weight." Successful treatment requires frequent checks and consultations and prescriptions differ for each Individual. If you so desire, make memorials Hannah O'Connell, beloved wife of the latt Edward J.
